Could Araceli remember? He shifted just slightly under Dove's hands, but it was just to turn his head so he could look at a different spot on a different wall. He made a small noise, a grunt, frustrated, like he didn't want Dove's hands to stop or like he didn't quite remember what he had been trying to forget.

"Uhm," he started and took a breath, "I was walking to the cabin. I know that for sure. I was coming up el sendero. And there was all this fog. I recognized the area but also didn't recognize the area. I just knew I was trying to get to the cabin. And I kept getting this feeling that something was following me."

Dove slowly ran his hands back the way they had come. He would never get his fill of Celi's muscles, but if he spent much longer just feeling him up then Celi might start to get suspicious. As Dove reached Celi's upper back, he kneaded into the muscles there. The first real effort toward a proper massage.

He hoped it would relax Celi, since Dove doubted the topic of conversation would.

"Can you remember what it was? The thing that followed you?"

The way Dove's hands kneaded the muscles pushed a contented sigh from Araceli's chest. With his mind trying to wade through the heat of the liquor, with the scent of the oils and the feeling of Dove trying to work the frustration out of his bones, it was easy to let Dove pry. It was easy to give.

"Remember the first night we met? On our way back to the inn?"

Dove's hands stilled against Celi's back.

"Yes, I remember."

How could he not? The wolf in the night. The wolf and the man, or--Dove couldn't be sure precisely what had happened, but he had been haunted by flashes of the experience for years. He tried not to linger too long on the details because whenever he did he felt an icy ball in his gut. There were some things Dove preferred to stay blissfully ignorant of, as unusual as that was for the person who wanted to know everything.

"I'm sorry about your nightmare," Dove said. "Hopefully, this can provide some distraction."

He kneaded farther down, his fingers firm against Celi's sides. Dove ran them steadily along Celi's rib cage.

"It's not your fault."

And he could see it again, so perfectly: the eternal stretch of the trail. The fog thicker than any Celi had come to known. The snap of the twig--or was it jaws--the breath. Had Dove been beside him? He couldn't remember. The dream was twisting and blurring into something new, and then there he was. The wolf. The man. Do--

Celi had to bury his face against the pillow because the noise that had left him was on the verge of unholy. Dove's hands against his ribs sent a very visceral warmth throughout his entire body, and had he been expecting it, he would have reacted with less enthusiasm. He was almost a little too tipsy to care, but he still felt a wave of embarrassment flush his face.

Maybe if he didn't make another noise, they could pretend that didn't happen.

It might not have been Dove's fault, but that didn't make him feel any better. Had he been wrong to ask about the nightmare? The whole purpose behind the massage had been to help Celi relax. Bringing up the dream seemed like it would have subverted everything Dove wanted to do. He mulled over a possible second apology as he pressed his fingers into Celi's sides and--

What? What was that? Dove paused in his massage for the briefest second, just to discern whether he'd hallucinated what had happened. Because there was no way in any universe that Celi had flat out moaned thanks to Dove's touch. That was Dove's fantasies talking to him, surely.

Before Celi could get suspicious, Dove continued what he had been doing. And perhaps he gave a little too much extra attention to Celi's sides and ribs. For scientific study.

Dove had heard him because of course Dove had heard him. For one drunken moment, Araceli stopped breathing completely because maybe if he didn't move at all, Dove would... what? Dove would forget he existed? Wouldn't see him, hands still plastered to his sides? Araceli wasn't entirely sure what his line of thinking had been, but it seemed to work because Dove continued on after only a brief pause.

In the same area.

Celi exhaled a shaking breath. The lightest touches alone were enough to feel like electricity. With Dove's fingers working into the muscle, Celi felt like puddy in his hands, all heat and warmth and a budding want he really didn't want to think about.

He heard the shuddering breath and Dove swore his fingers trembled in response. Did Dove really have this much power over Celi? All because he'd found some sort of secret weak point in Celi's body? If Dove had more pride, he would have ceased prodding Celi in the same easy target. The operative word being if.

Dove dragged his hands down Celi's sides and back up again. He pressed his thumbs into the planes of Celi's back, the rest of his fingers giving his ribs the same attention as before. Celi's body was ridiculous. His muscles. The perfect V of his torso. How hot his skin felt to Dove's touch.

"Oh," Dove gasped out in pleasure, barely under his breath.

Celi could believe that this was part of the massage. He had to believe that, because if he didn't, then Dove was just purposefully running his hands over such tender skin for the fun of it and even tipsy--or drunk--Celi didn't know what to do with that newly found information.

But then he heard Dove, and his first thought was no es justo and as soon as that thought crossed his mind, he exhaled another unsteady breath and hoped that he hadn't said it out loud. Because, honestly, Dove wasn't fair. Everything he was doing was too much, and if Celi had been in his right mind he would have stopped it. He would have ended it. Because he didn't trust how he would react to it otherwise.

"Oh," Celi allowed himself to groan, just softly, just quietly. Just enough for Dove to hear, and he knew Dove could hear. Because if Dove was going to be unfair, then so was he.

Celi's moan made Dove give a full body shudder. Sparks of electricity shot down his arms, and he was stunned that Celi didn't light up like a tree that had been struck by lightning.

This was insane. Dove started to think he really had imagined everything, or that he had dreamed the entire night and this was the crescendo to an epic fantasy. If it was a fantasy, then Dove didn't want to miss out on a single moment. He wanted to grab hold of the fantasy as firmly as he dug his fingers into Celi's skin.

Dove didn't know when his own moaning had started, but once it did he couldn't seem to stop. Soft moans and gasps escaped him as he pressed his fingers down firmly, working Celi's muscles.
